Academician Yuan Longping ’s goal of developing saline-alkali-tolerant rice is that within 10 years, select saline-alkali-tolerant rice varieties with a salt tolerance of three to six thousandths and an alkali tolerance of pH 9 or higher, and the annual promotion area Up to 100 million mu, with an average yield of 300 kg per mu, so that 30 billion kg of grain can be increased every year.

Based on this, academician Yuan Longping proposed that the national saline-alkali-tolerant rice technology center aiming to seize the leading position of international saline-alkali land utilization technology and cultivate new growth points in grain production is intensifying preparations.
It is understood that the center is led by the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center (National Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center), in conjunction with Hainan University, Sanya Nanfan Science and Technology Research Institute, Qingdao Hai Rice Research and Development Center Co., Ltd., Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Guangdong Jointly built by Ocean University, Hunan Agricultural University, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other units.
In view of the wide distribution and variety of saline-alkali land in China, the research superior units, platforms and talent teams are scattered and difficult to concentrate.
